NASA and AmeriSciences
-
After responding to a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by NASA’s Johnson Space Center, AmeriSciences was selected to undergo a rigorous and comprehensive review by NASA physicians and scientists, and by the medical and science communities at the14 universities who serve as advisors to NASA for all its human science programs and projects.
- In 2005 NASA and AmeriSciences signed a Space Act Agreement providing for the joint development of nutritional supplements for use by America’s astronauts while in training on the ground and when subjected to the challenges of space flight, including the unique nutritional requirements of long-term space flight as NASA prepares for human missions to mars.
- Now entering “phase two” of the project envisioned in the Space Act Agreement, research and testing are now underway on four product formulation being developed for use by the Astronaut Corps during earthbound conditioning and future space missions. Two of the four formulations are directly based on AmeriSciences existing formulas for Omega Max and the Men’s’ and Women’s Master-Multi. NASA’s Medical Operations Board has already approved the use of these products for astronauts on Earth. Additional studies are now being considered to determine the safety and toxicity of the products before they can be approved for use by astronauts while in space.
